FOR THE WEEK ENDING October 2nd, 1998 1) Francis Boyle, Professor of Law at the University of Illinois, who examines the evidence gathered by Special Council Kenneth Starr against President Clinton and whether or not it meets the constitutional standards for impeachment. 2) Bernadette Del Chiaro, from the Toxics Action Center, who describes the 105-Day Countdown for Clean Air, an effort to force the state of Connecticut to clean up its five dirtiest power plants. 3) Father James B. Callan, who explains why he was fired by the Vatican as Pastor of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Rochester, New York. FOR THE WEEK ENDING October 9th, 1998 1) Michelle Sforza, Research Director at Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch, who discusses her group's victory in defeating fast track legislation that would have granted President Clinton expanded authority to negotiate future trade agreements. 2) Barbara Lee, board chair of the White House Project, who talks about her group's campaign to have a woman elected as President of the United States within the next ten years. 3) Richard Matthews, of the Office for Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association, who explains the purpose of Banned Books Week, observed this year from September 27th to October 3rd. FOR THE WEEK ENDING October 16th, 1998 1) Journalist and author Martin Lee, who examines the results of German elections which ended the 16-year rule of conservative Helmut Kohl and brought a Social Democratic/Green Party coalition to power. 2) Daniel Rothenberg, author of "With These Hands: The Hidden World of Migrant Farmworkers Today," who talks about his book which documents through oral history, the plight of America's migrant farmworkers. 3) Bradley McCallum, the artist-in-residence with the New York Civil Liberties Union, who describes how an artist can be a powerful voice for social change. FOR THE WEEK ENDING October 23th, 1998 1) Eugene Caroll, Deputy Director of the Center for Defense Information who examines NATO's threat of air strikes to force Yugoslavian military and police to withdraw from the embattled Kosovo province. 2)Michael Ratner, an attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights, who condemns the U.S. government's refusal to deport Haitian death squad leader Emmanuel Constant to stand trial for alleged war crimes committed against the people of Haiti. 3)Joanne Sheehan, the New England Organizer for the War Resisters League, who talks about "A Day Without the Pentagon," a march and rally planned for October 19th in Washington, D.C." FOR THE WEEK ENDING October 30th, 1998 1) Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies who examines some of the critical issues preventing Israel and the Palestinians from concluding a peace settlement. 2)Dr. William Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA, who describes human rights abuses in the United States, the focus of a year-long campaign by his organization. 3)Alicia Littletree, an activist with Earth First!, who summarizes events which led to the death of David Chain an Earth First! member who was killed while defending a stand of old growth forest in northern California.
