Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)
Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.
Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.
His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

Interview with Gabor Rona, international legal director with Human Rights First, conducted by Scott Harris

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said that waterboarding -- which was banned by President Obama in January 2009 -- was “a good program. It was a legal program. It was not torture, I would strongly recommend we continue it." Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld stated “it was a mistake to rule out waterboarding. It's clear that those techniques that the CIA used worked."

Interview with Chris Toensing, editor of Middle East Report, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
On May 4th, Fatah, the Palestinian faction that rules the West Bank, and Hamas, the Islamist faction that controls Gaza, signed a pact in Cairo that would unite the two rival parties to form a transitional government and hold long-delayed elections in both territories within a year. Because Hamas has refused to renounce violence or recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state, Israel condemned the move, while the Obama administration is taking a wait-and-see approach.

Interview with Ben Manski, coordinator of Wisconsin Wave

The enormous protests in Wisconsin during February and March -- organized to oppose Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s legislation that would have all but eliminated public employee unions’ collective bargaining rights -- have tapered down in recent weeks. But although the national media spotlight has dimmed on the spirited movement that saw over 100,000 demonstrators descend on, and occupy the capitol in Madison, the progressive campaign to derail Walker’s hard right conservative agenda goes on.
