Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.
Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.
His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

Interview with Marge Baker, executive vice president for policy and program planning with People for the American Way, conducted by Scott Harris
As Americans focus on their choices in this November’s presidential election, the nation’s weak economy and continuing high unemployment will be among the most important issues voters will consider. But a critical issue that doesn’t often make headlines in the election campaign relates to how the outcome of the presidential election could affect the future ideological composition of the U.S. Supreme Court. The presidency, with its power to nominate new justices to the high court gives the occupant of the White House decisive influence on shaping the makeup of the court and its future decisions.
With four Supreme Court Justices now over age 70, it’s likely that the next president will have the opportunity to nominate one or more new judges to the court over the next four years. Of the court’s liberal bloc, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 79 and Justice Stephen Breyer is 74. Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia and right-leaning swing justice Anthony Kennedy are both 76. With Chief Justice John Roberts leading the court to the right on many recent decisions related to corporate power and social justice, the selection of future judges will have a profound effect on shaping the court for a generation.
The group People for the American Way recently launched a new program called, “The Romney Court Campaign,” to inform voters about the positions GOP candidate Mitt Romney has taken on judicial issues and the likely ideological views he’d look for in a future court nominee should he win the presidency. Between The Lines’ Scott Harris spoke with Marge Baker, People for the American Way’s vice president for policy and program planning. Here, she talks about how the outcome of this November’s presidential election could affect the future ideological makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court.
