Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)
Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.
Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.
His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

Interview with Jake Johnston, research associate with the Center for Economic and Policy Research, conducted by Scott Harris
Under pressure from militant street protests triggered by charges of rampant fraud and a candidate boycott of Haiti's presidential run-off election, the government of unpopular president Michel Martelly cancelled the scheduled Jan. 24 vote. This, the second cancellation of the run-off election comes amid uncertainty about the next steps in a chaotic electoral process. President Martelly's term in office officially ends on Feb. 7, and negotiations have begun to decide if an interim government would take power after Martelly's exit, or if he would remain in office until a replacement is elected.

Interview with Alex Felson, assistant professor at Yale University and head of Yale’s Urban Ecology Design Lab, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
As much of the East Coast was digging out from the historic snowstorm and coastal flooding that hit the region in late January, the federal government announced that it has awarded $1 billion to 14 states through the Department of Housing and Urban Development's National Disaster Resilience Competition. Connecticut, where 95 percent of the population lives within 50 miles of the coast and has suffered massive damage to its coastline in several recent storms, received roughly $54 million. Those funds will be spent developing a project in Bridgeport, based on the state's resilience corridor concept and developing a regional planning effort for 13 municipalities in Fairfield and New Haven counties. The federal grant will also finance the development of a climate change adaptation framework through the Connecticut Institute for Resilience in Climate Adaptation at the University of Connecticut.

Interview with David Holtz, executive committee chair of the Michigan chapter of the Sierra Club, conducted by Scott Harris
The water crisis in Flint, Michigan has in recent weeks attracted widespread media attention with a focus on the reckless actions of Michigan Republican governor Rick Snyder's administration. The Governor's appointment of an emergency manager in Flint, nullifying the city's democratic governance, began a chain of events that led to the municipality switching water source from Detroit's water system to the Flint River in April 2014. The water from the river corroded the city's pipes and contaminated the water supply with dangerous levels of lead impacting Flint's mostly poor and black population of 100,000. Lead poisoning can produce lifelong health effects, especially in children, that includes brain damage, learning disabilities and behavioral problems.
