Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)

Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.

Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.

His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

teapartyracism After months of conservative activists brandishing racist signs at anti-Obama Tea Party movement rallies around the country, delegates at last summer's NAACP convention unanimously passed a resolution condemning white supremacist elements within the Tea Party, and called on the group's leaders to repudiate members who spread a message of bigotry and hate. When Congress passed the health care reform bill in March, tea party activists protested on Capital Hill, with some hurling racist epithets, and even spitting at members of the Congressional Black Caucus. In 2006, California passed a ground-breaking law to address climate change, known as AB-32 or the Global Warming Solutions Act. In the face of inaction by the federal government on climate change, this state law requires California to reduce its global warming emissions -- including carbon dioxide and five other gases -- to 1990 levels by 2020. That would be a 25 percent reduction over current levels and would put California in compliance with requirements specified in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. never ratified. Story continues

france Over the past two weeks, French workers have engaged in militant national strikes and massive protests in opposition to President Nicolas Sarkozy's plan to raise the minimum retirement age from 60 to 62 and the age for a full government pension from 65 to 67 years. Although there is widespread public opposition, the French Senate and National Assembly haves passed different versions of Sarkozy's pension reform bill, and are expected to finalize and approve the law.
