Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)
Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.
Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.
His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

Amid rising tensions between Iran and the West, the Israeli government charged that Iran and its ally Hezbollah were responsible for two bombings on Feb. 13 targeting Israel’s embassy staff in New Delhi, India that injured four, and in Tiblisi, Georgia where a bomb was found and defused. Three Iranian nationals fled the scene of another bomb explosion in Bangkok, Thailand on Feb. 14 that appeared to have been set off accidentally in a house a few miles from the Israeli Embassy. 2012 Campaign Spending Breaking New Records as Groups Fight to Overturn Supreme Court 'Corporate Personhood' Decision

Although President Obama opposed the Supreme Court’s January 2010 Citizens United decision that eliminated many limits on corporate contributions to election campaigns, he symbolically threw in the towel in early February to endorse Super Political Action Committees or Super PACs created by the decision. With his endorsement, Obama joined Republican presidential candidates who are already using Super PACs, and urged his supporters to make donations to the Priorities USA Super PAC, established to make unlimited expenditures on the president’s behalf in the 2012 election campaign. But as the White House made this announcement, a press release stated that “President favors action – by constitutional amendment, if necessary – to place reasonable limits on all such spending.” Story continues

- Thirty years ago, Argentina and Britain warred over the Falklands Islands, and tensions have heated up again since the 2010 with the discovery of oil reserves near the islands, which is inhabited by only 3000 people. Argentina's President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner filed a complaint with the United Nations over her nation's dispute with Britain over the status of the Falklands. - Rapid growth in Brazil has sent wages for domestic workers soaring and reduced tolerance for abusive behavior by employers. While the number of domestic workers in Rio de Janeiro covered by social security has risen by 50 percent, the children of domestic workers are pursuing higher education and good paying jobs as nurses and accountants. - The 9th district Federal Court of Appeals in San Francisco overturned Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California on narrow legal grounds.
