Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)
Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.
Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.
His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

GOP Sweeps U.S. Congress
"This is the next stage of corporate domination of government and our elections." -- Ralph Nader
If Tea Party voters knew what Between The Lines' listeners knew, would they have voted for candidates bankrolled by many of the very financial institutions that are responsible for the global economic meltdown? 2010 has been the year of the Tea Party -- backed by multi-billionaires David and Charles Koch, Fox News and anonymous corporate donors -- thanks to the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year on Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which not only allowed corporations, unions and nonprofits the same rights as individual citizens to influence elections, but to donate unlimited funds to candidates without disclosure.
We need your help more than ever to continue expanding our efforts to disseminate the work of independent journalists and progressive activists -- and to broadcast perspectives on socioeconomic, environment, energy and peace issues largely under-reported on the airwaves.

Or, here's how to find out more about our premiums, or donate by check.
Listen now to the entire program Individual segments follow.

Interview with Ralph Nader, citizen activist and former presidential candidate, conducted by Scott Harris
Ever since the 1965 book release of "Unsafe at Any Speed," about the U.S. auto industry's reckless disregard for passenger safety, Ralph Nader has been known as a people's lawyer, fighting to protect consumers and the environment from rapacious and greedy corporations. Nader went on to run for president four times, twice with the Green Party in 1996 and 2000 -- and twice as an independent in 2004 and 2008, where he promoted campaign finance and electoral reforms to strengthen grassroots democracy. Interview with Aaron Hughes, organizing team leader with the group Iraq Veterans Against the War, conducted by Melinda Tuhus
Conspicuously absent in the debates and political advertisements inundating the airwaves before the Nov. 2, 2010 congressional midterm election was any discussion about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- from any perspective. Suicide bombings and massacres are continuing in Iraq, overwhelmingly affecting civilians, while the Iraqi government has been deadlocked since elections this past March. The number of Americans dying in Iraq has dropped sharply, while in Afghanistan, 2010 has been by far the deadliest year of the nine-year-old conflict, with 413 Americans killed so far this year. Yet, neither incumbents nor their challengers were talking about the wars, and the media have almost universally ignored the issue during the 2010 campaign. Story continues

Interview with Tova Wang, senior democracy fellow at Demos, conducted by Scott Harris
Claims of voter fraud have been a familiar refrain from Republican Party officials in recent elections. In 2010, as in past years, the GOP has charged that Democratic-allied groups have systematically worked to allow non-citizens to vote or permit Democratic supporters to cast multiple ballots. When reports indicated that the number of Democrats voting in early balloting was higher than predicted, Dick Armey, who leads the Tea Party movement's patron group, Freedom Works, explained to Fox News that the higher number of Democrats voting was due to voter fraud -- all said without a shred of evidence.
