Award-winning Investigative Journalist Robert Parry (1949-2018)

Award-winning investigative journalist and founder/editor of ConsortiumNews.com, Robert Parry has passed away. His ground-breaking work uncovering Reagan-era dirty wars in Central America and many other illegal and immoral policies conducted by successive administrations and U.S. intelligence agencies, stands as an inspiration to all in journalists working in the public interest.

Robert had been a regular guest on our Between The Lines and Counterpoint radio shows -- and many other progressive outlets across the U.S. over four decades.

His penetrating analysis of U.S. foreign policy and international conflicts will be sorely missed, and not easily replaced. His son Nat Parry writes a tribute to his father: Robert Parry’s Legacy and the Future of Consortiumnews.

"Forty-six percent support impeachment, who are going to say so, and zero percent of the members of the House of Representatives [are] willing to say that they support impeachment."

Nationwide Effort to Impeach Donald Trump Launches with Petition Drive

MP3 Interview with Norman Solomon, co-founder & coordinator of the online organization RootsAction.org, conducted by Scott Harris

The first month of Donald Trump’s presidency has been rocked by chaotic White House mismanagement of a series of events, including investigations into the Trump campaign’s links with Russian government officials, the sloppy and unconstitutional roll out of the so-called Muslim ban that was successfully overturned in federal court, the ouster Michael Flynn as national security adviser for lying to the vice president and a constant stream of lies and misinformation coming from both the president and his spokespersons. With the worst public approval ratings of any newly elected U.S. president in modern American history and a burgeoning protest movement that has seen the mobilization of literally millions of people in opposition to the Trump agenda, the situation looks pretty bleak for a president who is supposed to be in his “honeymoon period.”  Story continues

On Feb. 26, 2015, the Federal Communications Commission voted in favor of new regulations that reclassified broadband Internet as a public utility under Title II of the Communications Act. The new rules that went into effect in June 2015, prohibited Internet service providers, including cellular carriers from blocking, slowing down or speeding up online traffic or giving priority to Web services in exchange for payment. This regulatory doctrine, commonly known as Net Neutrality, had been at the heart of political battles since the 1990s.  Story continues

Advocacy Groups Reach Out to Immigrant Communities Fearful of Trump Mass Deportations

MP3 Interview with Fatima Rojas, leader with the immigrant advocacy group, Unidad Latina en Accion in New Haven, CT, conducted by Melinda Tuhus

immigrants

Of all the many opponents of the Trump administration agenda, perhaps the most urgent and vocal is that of immigrants and their allies who protest against Trump's promise to build a wall and deport most or all of the 11 million immigrants here without papers. The recent arrest of a young man in Washington state with legal status under DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, sent a chill through the nation’s undocumented immigrant community – as did the Homeland Security announcement of new orders for stricter Department of Immigration enforcement.  Story continues
